New concept of LASIK method: ReLEx

ReLEx LASIK : Create corneal flap and adjust the thickness of corneal stroma with a single laser.

More and more people want to have vision correction surgery for better and convenient life because wearing and carrying glasses or contact lenses can be a real hassle. Ever since Dr. Baraker of Columbia University first performed vision correction surgery in 1949, medical technology for vision correction has been dramatically advanced.
An old vision of correction surgery first created the corneal flap with the blade, and then adjusted the thickness of corneal stroma with Eximer Laser to create proper corneal refraction for a better vision.
However, this process lacked its accuracy because the process was done manually by a surgeon's hands. To compensate for its lack of accuracy, all-laser assisted LASIK surgery - creating corneal flap with femtosecond laser and adjusting thickness of corneal stroma with eximer laser - was used to provides more accuracy in adjusting the thickness of corneal stroma, reducing any operative error in order to acquire better surgical result. However, all-laser LASIK surgery still had its disadvantages. The all-laser LASIK still needed at least two laser devices during the procedure, one to create the corneal flap and another to adjust the thickness of corneal stroma.
Recently, ReLEx LASIK, the latest surgical technology which only requires a single laser device, is introduced and took surgeons’ attention. ReLEx LASIK adapted visumax, the latest femtosecond laser which was approved by FDA, CE and KFDE for its safety. ReLEx LASIK surgery maximizes the efficiency and minimizes the operative time by simplifying surgical procedure from using 2 lasers to one.
The strongest point of ReLEx LASIK is the capability to create thinner corneal flap.
ReLEx can create 100 μ thickness of corneal flap whrereas old laser creates 120 μ to 150 μ. Thus, it is now possible to correct severe myopia that requires greater degree of corneal thickness adjustment. In addition, the diameter of corneal flap is also reduced to 6.25~6.5mm from 8.5~9.5mm, 40% reduction of existing corneal flaps. ReLEx LASIK is less likely to damage neighboring nerves or tissues of cornea, thus, reducing the occurance of pain or dry eye syndrome.
As laser vision correction technology gradually advances, a new laser device is introduced that overcomes shortcomings of conventional laser equipment. ReLEx LASIK surgery is expected to open a new chapter on vision correction field with its advanced technology enabling the entire surgical procedure with a single laser. Although the equipment takes a great part in vision correction surgery, you should never overlook the role of educated, well-trained and experienced surgeons.

I have been wearing contacts whenever I practice or compete. Since I usually practice for over 6 hours daily, my eyes were dry and sore. After witnessing my older sister, Boram Cha, suffering during the LASIK surgery 3 years ago, I was quite reluctant to undergo the LASIK surgery for myself. However, my coach and other atheletes convinced me to go through with LASIK, pointing out advantages of the surgery.

After receiving pre-operative eye exam, I found out the thickness of my cornea is thicker than other people, which makes me an ideal candidate for LASIK surgery.

Mr.Jangsu Lee, a national pocket ball team coach, was also very relieved to hear that as well. Dr. Ryu, a director of BS Eye Center has given me and my coach a thorough explanation about the procedure and I decided to undergo LASIK surgery.

I chose iFS LASIK which is proven to be more resistant to external shock, the most suitable surgical method for a person like me involved in physical activity than average people.

My eyes became sensitive for 1~2 days after the surgery, but I've heard it is a common symptom for majority of people after the LASIK. Sometimes I felt a little bit of ichness, but I made sure not to rub my eyes. I also strictly followed a doctor's words, instilling eyedrops, anti-biotics and eye gel on time.

After a few days, I was able to go back to normal daily life.

It is important to follow a doctor's words in order to shorten the downtime after the surgery. Now I really enjoy competing without having to wear contacts.

The way to live without glasses

Hyesoo Kim, a college student, who was envious of her friends that had vision correction surgery during winter break, decided to have the surgery for herself. However, she did not have enough time for the surgery because she's a fulltime student and working as a part-timer. She had to delay the plan  for next summer break.
Like Hyesoo, it is quite difficult for busy workers or students to get eye surgery. In order to help them, P & VIIT(BS Eye Center) offers ‘DAYFIT’ program which takes only 1 day to correct their vision from initial examination to surgery. With the DAYFIT program, it is now easier to make a schedule for vision correction surgery.
Generally, vision correction surgery needs at least two days; the first visit for initial examination and the second visit for the operation. Using DAYFIT program, a patient could have vision correction surgery on Friday and go to work on Monday.

Wavefront test is also included in preoperative examination to accurately measure the degrees of astigmatism or myopia and also measures corneal thickness and degree of refraction, intraocular pressure and size of pupil. As of May 2, 2011, BS Eye Center changed its name to P & VIIT Eye Center and opened the second exam center in order to serve customers’ needs better. Junho Lee, 2 PM, had a LASIK Surgery

Hello, I’m Junho Lee from 2PM.
I’ve worn a pair of glasses since I was a kid. However, after debut, I couldn’t wear it because I kept dropping my glasses on the stage. So, I wore contact lenses instead. Wearing contact lenses everyday caused redness in my eyes. Finally, I decided to have a vision correction surgery. Yay!
I visited BS Eye Center and met Dr. Sooshin Kim. Dr. Kim explained the surgical procedure step by step. I finally had a LASIK surgery. It took less than an hour. It was the most efficient one-hour that I’ve ever spent in my whole life. I should’ve done LASIK surgery a long time ago.

Just Had a LASEK Surgery

Hello, my name is Scott Miles and I’m currently working at the department of English in Sogang University as a professor.
I’ve worn a pair of glasses or contact lenses during my whole life. I’ve always wanted to live without carrying glasses or wearing contact lenses. One day, my friend introduced me BS Eye Center and I decided to have vision correction surgery. All staffs in BS Eye Center were very kind and took good care of patients.
I had a LASEK surgery. On the contrary to my worry, the surgery was done very quickly without any pain. I had a little discomfort for two days after the surgery. However, I was not worried at all because BS Eye Center already explained every step from initial exam to healing process. So I knew I may experience a little bit of discomfort for the next few days after the surgery, and there was nothing to worry about. Now I am satisfied with my vision. I want to thank BS Eye Center for your advanced and friendly medical service. I will recommend BS Eye Center to those of you who need vision correction.

Vision Correction, LASIK, LASEK, and ICL.

BS Eye Center, a specialist for LASIK and LASEK surgery, performed the survey asking “What do you want to do most after LASIK surgery?” using a social network, twitter. About 12,000 people have responded and 30% of respondents, the largest group, selected looking at a clock or a calendar as the first thing they want to do after vision correction. 

The second was disposing contacts and glasses followed by playing aquatic sports. Beside these, there were various responses including doing beautiful eye make-up, falling asleep without taking lens off and traveling.
As seen on the pie graph, responses are evenly distributed, which means people with poor vision experienced inconvenience in overall daily lives.
Dr. Jinkook Kim, a director of BS Eye Center, said that people who have poor vision are suffering from not only poor vision, but also from carrying and wearing contacts or glasses. He insisted, “Surgical techniques for vision correction such as ICL (Implantable Contact Lens), LASIK or LASEK are advanced. It only takes half an hour to get you out of these inconveniences.”

All of my family members received

While performing on the stage, I accidently lost my contacts. Although I could finish my performance without any trouble, I was not able to concentrate on my performance because of poor vision without contacts. My eyes have been exposed to intense stage lighting and I wore contacts for a long time. I realized that my eyes were getting worse and worse. So I decided to have eye surgery. Dr. explained about my condition in detail after preoperative eye exams, and recommended the ‘New Amaris’ Lasik for my eyes. He explained about surgical prodedures and equipments which he is going to use during my surgery. Therefore, when I entered the operating room, I had no fear about the surgery. During the operation, the doctor kept communicating with me which made me feel safe.
Now I enjoy my new life with better vision. I have talked to my team members, and Micky Youcheon and Shia Joonsoo has also taken the Lasik surgery at BS Eye Center.
Now, with the excellent vision, I could say goodbye to contacts. I don't need to carry them anymore. I really appreciate the staffs and a director of the Gangnam BS Eye Center who have given me the better eye sight.

For the new life!
My boyfriend, who is Korean, looked all over the places on the internet to find a right clinic for my eyes. It was tough to find one with English speaking staff. Then one of my acquaintance recommended me BS Eye Clinic and ended up coming here for LASIK surgery.
I was very impressed with the advanced technology and professional staffs of BS Eye Clinic. One thing I really liked was the number of preoperative tests I got. It made me feel very safe receiving surgery here. Also, I am very satisfied with kind and polite staffs.
I was very nervous during the process since I’ve never had any kind of surgery before. I had no idea of what was going to happen. But the doctor helped me to calm down during the surgery and made me feel secure. After the surgery, I was able to open my eyes right away, then, they took me to a room to get some rest for about half an hour.
I was thrilled to see everything clearly which I wanted so much.  I could see colors more vividly than ever. I was so happy that I didn’t have to wear glasses any more, I look prettier and my eyes look bigger without my glasses.

During my stay in Korea for a year, I have heard of outstanding medical service in Korea many times. DNA Test is a Must before Lasik surgery

Many people are wondering about Lasik and Lasek surgeries because those are one of the most popular surgeries for eyes. Moreover, it is hard to reject the possibility of getting better vision for those of you who have worn either glasses or contacts for years. However, the eyes play a very important role in our lives and this fact makes us to hesitate to have surgery on the eyes. BS eye has focused on the medical documentation for a long time and issues the proof of medical record to every patient in order to fulfill customers’ satisfaction. One of the frequent questions I get from patients is about Avellino Corneal Dystrophy (ACD), a genetic disorder.
The research says that one person in every 870 people suffers from ACD in Korea. Moreover, it is well-known that ACD can cause the blindness. As discovered by many researches, the ACD is caused by hyper protein precitipation, called Hyaline, in Cornea. Most patients starts to show this symptom when they become teenagers and their visual acuity is dramatically declined in their 60’s or 70’s. ACD does not display visible symptoms on its early stage. In addition, it depends on many external factors such as environmental factors, the duration of wearing contacts and etc. In most cases, the slit lamp microscope does not recognize ACD. Especially, someone who has a genetic factor of ACD will be affected by simple stimulus on his/her eyes. In this case, the vision correction surgery, like Lasik or Lasek, which operates directly on the cornea might leads patients to very dangerous situation. To prevent the worst scenario like this, the Avellino DNA Test is a mandatory before surgery.
The BS Eye Center performs Avellino DNA Test for every single person who is willing to have the vision correction surgery. The DNA test that BS Eye Center performs is AGDS™ Test which extracts DNA from epithelial cells on cheek, blood cells, and hair roots. It is very simple and easy and the result will be notified within 4 hours. However, most ophthalmologic clinics let the patients decide whether to have the Avellino DNA Test or not because of the cost issue. Patients usually do not have enough information about ACD. ACD is a very serious disease which may lead patients to the blindness. Therefore, all ophthalmologists should perform Avellino DNA Test before surgery in order to prevent the worst case scenario.
